When I initially had the idea of doing all five of this week’s posts about Squarepusher (see the posts from Monday and Tuesday), I secretly wondered if I could find five songs to write about. Let’s just say that’s no longer an issue, I could write about another 27 songs at least, as I have 30 songs marked as favorites in iTunes.
I am skipping over the three years and numerous releases between yesterday’s “Port Rhombus” and today’s “Iambic 5 Poetry.” Suffice to say, Jenkinson took drum and bass to its (il)logical conclusion with albums like 1997′s Hard Normal Daddy, then repented with 1998′s cathartic Music is Rotted One Note. 1999′s Budakan Mindphone, from which this song is taken, was a measured step back to the now familiar Squarepusher sound.
This track exhibits all of the richness and fullness of “Port Rhombus” but does so with a completely stripped down sound; in fact, it borders on tinny, even when the meat of the song kicks in. If anything, it’s even more spectacular given that he achieves that same lushness with a decidedly “less is more” ethic. I had completely forgotten how much I love this song:

Tomorrow’s song builds off of this one, so study up!
