If no one shows you around…

The Go Find’s “New Year”:

I stumbled upon The Go Find a few years ago when I finally went back to fill in my early Morr Music collection. I bought one of their songs on the iTMS, loved it so much I bought the entire album online, then flipped so completely for it that I had to buy the disc itself for the better sound quality… That’s pretty much me to a tee.

All I know is that I played it nonstop for several months on end (Abby called it weenie rock if I remember correctly, and rightfully so, but I think she liked it just the same). They still rank 11th on my Last.fm Overall Top Artists list, a list topped by those with many, many releases in my collection (there’s only one other single album artist on that list: Spank Rock but that album kicks so much ass).

At any rate, I really dig their sound, but kinda just forgot about them. This pretty much says it best:

Sweet! I thought everyone had forgotten about these guys, including themselves.

While the new stuff feels much more mature (for one, the lyrics are somewhat less cheeky and much more coherent), it’s clear TGF hasn’t lost its original charm. This song is subtle and so incredibly sublime. It’s timeless in many ways, but instantly recognizable as one of their own. And it’s already stuck in my head…

I have a feeling it could be the song of the (my) year, if for no other reason that this does in fact feel like the new year I’ve been waiting for. As always, more on that soon.

But before I go, a quick word on helmets. I’ve owned two in my adult life, one for mountain biking and another for snowboarding, and I like to wear them around the house, most especially in the first few days of owning them. What’s more funny about wearing a helmet around the house isn’t that I wouldn’t normally need one in my day-to-day life, it’s how I always end up needing one when I wear it, just because it swells my already huge head to unheard of dimensions, nay, epic proportions. I run into everything. That, and helmets is just a funny word to say.
